You've Got Questions

Free Consultation

I like to speak with potential clients by phone before they come in for their first appointment.  If we don't talk about what you need or expect and if I am the right provider for those needs, the first appointment might be a little overwhelming for you.  In this call, I learn a little bit about you and what you want from therapy, and it affords you an opportunity to ask me questions too! If you need services other than I provide, I am happy to point you in the right direction towards a more appropriate practitioner.

Finances

I currently accept the following insurance plans: Maine Community Health Options,  Anthem, Anthem Maine Health, US Family Health Plan/TRICARE (through Martin's Point), Cigna, Optum, United Healthcare, and Health Advocates EAP. I also take private pay clients.  The fee for private pay appointments is $80 per session.  Cash, checks, and credit/debit cards are accepted.

Payment is expected at the time of service for any insurance co-pays, deductibles, etc., or if you are private paying.  It is important for you to check with your insurer ahead of time to confirm what your financial responsibility will be.

Session Length

Regular sessions are about 45-60 minutes long.

Appointments

Please arrive on time to your scheduled appointment.  Even if you are late, we have a specific block of time that we are scheduled to meet so please understand that your appointment will still end at its regular time.  If you need to cancel, I ask a minimum of 24 hours' notice by phone or text, please, although I understand that at times serious emergencies do occur.  If that is the case, I request that you notify me as soon as humanly possible.  After one emergency cancellation, however, I will need to start billing you the missed appointment rate of $60 for any subsequent cancellations without 24-hour notice.

When Windham and/or Standish schools are canceled due to snow or ice, my office may be closed.  I will text you in the morning (or even the night before) to advise you of a closure if we have a session scheduled that day and to try to reschedule for another day.  Likewise, even if Windham/Standish schools are not closed, but you don't feel safe driving on snow or ice, please let me know as soon as you can.  You will not be charged for a missed appointment for snow/ice storms.

Cell Phones and Other Distractions

I realize that sometimes you need to leave your phone on during session (e.g. waiting for a call from child care, or a sick relative, or your employer), but let's talk about it first.  Our time together is valuable.  If you and I are distracted by dinging, beeping, quacking, or reading text messages we may have difficulty focusing on the work that is therapy.  Please silence your phone upon arrival into the waiting area.  A bonus is that this gives you time that is all yours to be uninterrupted by outside demands!

I do not allow children or pets (other than registered service dogs) to be part of adult therapy sessions.

I respectfully request that you keep strong fragrances and smoke odors to a minimum out of consideration for other clients who may have allergies.   There is no smoking in the building or on the exterior grounds, per the request of the property owner.  I sincerely appreciate your help in keeping the outside areas - including the parking lot - butt free.

The Great Outdoors

I'm a firm believer that therapy does not need to always occur within the confines of a 12'x12' office.  Sometimes, it's easier to think and express yourself out and about in the fresh air.  Some of my most profound thoughts have come to me when I'm taking a walk in the woods and can see the beauty of the natural world and the infinity of the sky above.  When the weather is cooperative, I am open to meeting you for our scheduled sessions at parks or nature trails local to the Standish/Windham area for a stroll or even just to hang out on a park bench.  I would, however, like to have a couple in-office sessions with you first to figure out what that plan would look like.
